In the men’s league, James Ontere’s Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) take on former champions, Gideon Tarus’ General Service Unit (GSU), with eyes firmly set on the elusive title.
The paramilitary side is keen to reclaim the title they have missed out on in the last two seasons.
The two sides have faced off at least four times this season, with the Dockers dominating the Kipchumba Karori Eldoret International Volleyball tournament semis and the national league, with Tarus’ charges taking victory in the Kenya Cup and the CAVB men’s club championship matches.
“The final is a different ball game. I believe the best-prepared team, regardless of past results, carries the day, and that has been our focus since booking our final slot.
These are two good teams facing off in a crucial moment. We expect them (GSU) to come just as prepared, but my confidence is in our planning and not history.
The squad is healthy and ready to go,” Ontere, who is out to deliver the title for the Mombasa-based outfit as a coach after failing as a player, offered.
GSU head to the final buoyed by an impressive regular season where they topped the table with 39 points from 13 wins, losing once to their final opponents.
In the playoffs, the paramilitary side eliminated Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) in the best-of-three quarterfinal series and Equity in the semifinals.
On their part, KPA stormed past Trailblazers in the quarterfinals before outclassing outgoing champions Prisons Kenya in the semis.
“We have missed out on the title in the last two seasons and are hungry for the title. The team is ready. We have a tough test against KPA, but I believe in my players to deliver,” Tarus told Mozzart Sport.
